The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are the classic audio-IC generation. Most of what looks like a dead phone on this model is a solvable board fault, not a write-off.
We ship your device to our third-party repair partner, who performs the board-level work in their clean, dedicated microsoldering facility. Lake Forest Computer handles intake, logistics, insurance and communication end to end — you deal with us, not them. Current lead time is 4–6 weeks door to door. Bench times are how long the board work itself takes once the device reaches the depot. Your door-to-door time is 4–6 weeks including shipping both ways.

What these faults actually are
Audio IC failure — the iPhone 7's signature fault
On the 7 and 7 Plus the audio IC sits on a flex-prone part of the board, and normal case flex eventually cracks its solder joints. The tell is a greyed-out speaker button on a call, voice memos that refuse to record, and boot times that stretch to 30 seconds or more. It is a reball or replacement of that IC, not a logic-board swap.
Tristar and why the phone stopped charging
Tristar is the chip that negotiates with the Lightning cable and tells the phone it is safe to draw power. When it fails — usually from a cheap or damaged cable, or liquid ingress — the port looks fine and the phone simply will not charge, or charges only at certain cable angles. Replacing the port does nothing; the chip is the fault.
VCC MAIN shorts and the no-power phone
VCC MAIN is the main battery rail on the board. A short on that rail — from a bent frame, liquid, or a component that failed shorted — pulls the whole phone down, so it shows no signs of life at all. Finding it means tracing the rail to the failed part, which is exactly the kind of work a board-level bench does and a screen-swap shop cannot.
FPC connectors and pry damage
The flex connectors for the screen, cameras and battery are soldered to the board. A screwdriver slipped during a previous screen repair tears pads off those connectors, and the phone loses whatever that connector fed. Rebuilding the pads and fitting a new connector is routine here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is an iPhone 7 still worth repairing at the board level?
If the phone holds data you need, almost always — board repair costs a fraction of recovery from a dead device. If it is a daily driver with no irreplaceable data on it, we will tell you honestly when replacement is the better call.
Will I lose my data?
Board-level repairs on this list are non-destructive — your data stays on the device. The exception is any NAND work, which wipes the phone; we flag that before starting.
What if the repair is unsuccessful?
In most cases there is no repair fee and you pay return shipping only. If the phone has been worked on before by someone else, an unsuccessful job carries a $60 bench fee.
Why does it take 4–6 weeks when the bench time is 1–3 days?
The bench work is fast. The rest is logistics — the device ships to our repair partner's facility with signature-required tracking, queues, is repaired and tested, then ships back to you the same way. We quote the honest door-to-door number, not the bench number.
Do you fix 'no service' on the 7?
Often, but not always — the 7's baseband faults are the one repair on this list we cannot promise. We diagnose first and only charge if we fix it.
